1. What do I need your service for?
I've seen a button like "translate this page into Russian" and there
are some on-line automated translation tools… Yes, there are
resources offering you instant translation of words and short texts.
But in many cases these free on-line tools provide you with rather
inaccurate if not irrelevant translations. This happens due to the
language structure cleft between the English and the Russian -
tenses, clauses, and the word order may get messed up. Another
reason for inaccuracy is that some words are "overloaded" with
meanings, and the translation mechanism may fail to choose the
contextually appropriate one. In other words, something you actually
meant may be totally lost and misinterpreted. And besides, such
translation lacks your personality, and this may become the greatest
drawback at times, you know… Sum this up. Click HERE to see an example of common confusion and
misinterpretation as a result of machine translation.
2.What are these tools made for then? They may be of
some use if your knowledge of a foreign language is at least at the
intermediate level, and you are able to trace the meanings… The more
you know, the more useful these tools become. Such tools are also
often used for terminology translation.
3.Are you a marriage agency, by the way? No, we are
not. We are translators - Elena and Yulia. We have no affiliates.
4. What other services do you have? The only service we
offer at the moment is correspondence translation. We will pay
attention to your suggestions and see what else we can do for
you.
5. Who will translate my letters? We are certified
linguists. Real people translate all the letters; no machine
translation is practiced here.
6. The lady I am writing to won't write me back in less than a
week. Why is it so? E-mail is fast! This is a very common
question. There is a bunch of problems your correspondent may be
facing. First of all she may have no PC or the Internet connection
or printer at her disposal, as well as her translator may not
possess all the necessary equipment. Then she may have to travel to
her translator with your letter. Then make another trip to the same
address with her reply… Plus printing out and possibly typing the
translated reply… And besides, writing a letter may not be as simple
as it seems, you know you have to be in the right mood (and in the
right place - before a PC) for that. Yes, this sketch seems to be
very outdated, but this may be her reality today as well. Just think
of the advantages to you and to your correspondent if you save time
and effort with our help on these mishaps! The lady you are writing
to will be getting letters in Russian, and all she'll have to do is
to enjoy your writing and to think of an answer… That you'll get in
English!
7. I'd like to attach some pictures to my
letter. Please make sure the pictures you send are in .JPG
format. We also ask you to attach no more than 2 pictures at once
under 100 kb each.
8. Do you translate other languages? Sorry, the only
language pair available is English - Russian.
